Is Living Life In Overdrive Really A Necessity?

I was talking with a few entrepreneurs this morning, and the “too much to do, never enough time” topic came up. The general consensus seemed to be that this pattern of living life constantly in overdrive is a necessity. Not something we can opt out of, but simply a necessary evil of the culture we live in today.

Although my life feels like that more often than I’d like too, I’m not sure I agree that it is beyond our choice. In my own world, I notice that overdrive happens most often when I’m not connected to my sense of passion and purpose. Which leaves me making decisions (and saying yes to requests) without a solid anchor point.

So I think one big key to put an end to living in overdrive is to understand your “why” in all areas of life. Then don’t be afraid to say no to virtually everything that doesn’t align with your why. No can be a very good word!

There are other factors that push us to lead overly busy lives. Some of these include fear of losing relationships and money worries. Obviously, this is a very big and complicated topic with many contributing drivers. But I do believe that if we start with a solid foundation of knowing what is most important to us and make decisions about what to allow into our lives/schedules based on that, we can at least greatly decrease the exhausting cycle of life in overdrive.

Keep this message coming Laura – right on! Saying No to what doesn’t align will send out messages to a very big Source about what we want or don’t want.

For me this is a great reminder of why I call women to retreat – to find the quiet where they can hear their own voice again. And then the burnout that comes from that ‘overdrive’ fades away.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Victoria! You are so right about the beauty of retreat. It’s a practice more people should take up on a regular basis.
