Shaping Your Environment To Create Success
We recently enjoyed a 5-day, 50-mile backpack trip through some of the most breathtaking wilderness scenery on the face of the earth. We saw moose and bear and pika and marmot. We hiked along rushing streams, through sweeping mountain vistas, and across lush meadows carpeted in wildflowers.
Now the funny thing about backpacking… although the rewards are many along the way, it’s bears a striking resemblance to work. In fact, the long slog of trekking over a steep mountain pass reminds me of how it feels to build and run a business some days.
The nice thing about backpacking is that it provides an environment that is conducive to forward momentum and “sticking it out” even when you don’t feel like it. When you’re three days from anywhere and your food supply is going to run out in that same time frame, you don’t have the luxury of deciding you don’t feel like going anywhere that day.
Which is far different than what sometimes happens when we’re facing the need to write yet another blog post or pick up the phone to have yet another selling conversation. All those long slogs of day-to-day business if you hope to reap the rewards of a wildly successful business.
Creating the right environment is one of the secrets I use to get unstuck and achieving results fast when it feels like my business has come to a screeching halt. How can you shape your environment to ensure momentum even when it feels like a slog to keep pushing ahead with what you need to do to grow your business?
